Builders Challenged to Side-by-Side Comparison of Comparably-Designed Slabs in Corresponding
Soils Conditions
PLEASANT HILL, Calif. (October 15, 2007) Pacific Housing Systems ™, LLC today announced the “WAFFLEMAT Challenge,” saying the innovative foundation forming system will provide builders moving construction activities into areas of expansive soils hard dollar cost savings in materials or cycletime when compared to other slab systems of comparable design and construction and in corresponding soils conditions. If not, PHS will give the WAFFLEMAT foundation to the builder for free.
The WAFFLEMAT foundation system has nearly 7,000,000 sf of residential living space installed since 1995 without one structural failure. It offers the ease of constructability of a uniform thickness foundation, along with the efficiency of an in-ground ribbed foundation. The system sits on pad grade, and comes in either 8.5” or 12” high, 19” x 19” thermal grade heat resistant WAFFLEBOXES (note: boxes are made of recycled plastic and are “green” material).
In addition, and in June 2007, WAFFLEMAT was awarded the prestigious “Northern California Air Quality Award” from Breathe California, adding to its impressive list of acknowledgements & recognition.
Tom Richards, President and CEO of Pacific Housing Systems, said: “The WAFFLEMAT is a proven foundation system for expansive soils and the cost savings demonstrable. We challenge any builder to a side by side comparison of their comparably-designed slab in corresponding soil conditions. If the WAFFLEMAT does not go in easier and save materials or cycletime, we’ll give them the WAFFLEMAT for free.”
Jim Winslow, CTO of PHS, noted: “WAFFLEMAT requires no presoaking, no trenching, no footings, no earth spoils. It possesses superior stiffness, yet resists swelling from over-watering, surface drainage, and flooding. It requires less depth of plumbing laterals beneath the WAFFLEBOXES -- which are also designed to clip together quickly and contain brackets that provide minimum sag to post-tension cables. Finally, and because the boxes are made of polypropylene plastic, there’s an additional barrier to help shield against moisture. It’s the easiest system to set up I’ve seen in 25 years of construction, and something we want to challenge builders to see first hand; their current foundation system and WAFFLEMAT, side-by-side.”
